  • Kaede – for the Japanese word 楓 (kaede), meaning maple tree.
  • Hourai – for the Greek goddesses who govern the seasons, the Horai, or Horae. It is also a name for Mount Penglai, an enchanted land of perpetual youth in Chinese mythology referenced in the Japanese tale of Princess Kaguya.
