Name
- Procyon – for the binary star system of the same name in the Canis Minor constellation, also referred to as the Little Dog Star. The word procyon in Greece also means ‘before the dog’ referring to the fact that the Procyon system comes into the sky shortly before the Dog Star, Sirius.
- Canis – from the Latin canis, meaning ‘dog’.
