This is a story from days gone by, when there was still a king and prince in Daten. Two princes appear after the rain in the courtyard of the royal castle. On that day long ago, Makoto and Sky snuck out of a tea party the adults were throwing and happened upon something…

The rain had stopped, and the grass had become an even more vibrant green…-.

While the royal family was hosting a tea party, Makoto had slipped out and found something in the thicket nearby.

Makoto: “Wow, what a pretty butterfly! But… it’s stuck in the spiderweb.”

Sky: “…Lord Makoto, you’ll get scolded for leaving the party without permission.”

Makoto: “Hey, Sky. Help that butterfly. And stop talking like that. It’s icky.”

Makoto muttered those words in displeasure as he pointed at the butterfly stuck in the web.

Sky: “It’s icky huh… geez… fine, whatever! I’ll get in trouble if my old man finds out, so don’t tell anyone.”

Makoto: “Hmmm~ I wonder if I will.”

As if amused by Sky’s words, Makoto smiled mischievously and looked back towards where the tea party was being held.

Makoto: “Haha, hey the servants are looking this way. They might tell on you if they hear you being rude.”

Sky: “Ah, dammit! Makoto… fine, fine I get it, okay!?”

Makoto: “You’re too loud Sky. Ah, hurry or the spider will eat the butterfly! Hurry up Sky!”

With a sigh, Sky looked at where Makoto was pointing.

The large spider that served as the master of the web was slowly moving towards the butterfly.

Sky: “…I know you probably don’t want people touching this but… sorry about this.”

Sky lay down on the grass still wet from the rain and reached out to the web.

Makoto: “Hey, you done yet?”

Sky: “Just hold on. I’m trying not to wreck the web any more than I need to…”

Makoto: “If the butterfly gets eaten, I’ll make you experience it too!”

Sky: “You’re going to have a spider eat me!? You really are such a…”

Even though he was half muttering to himself, Sky carefully took hold of the butterfly’s wings.

Once free from the spider’s web, it fluttered and soared up into the clear sky.

Makoto: “Wow, it’s so pretty!”

Sky: “…yeah, it is.”

Sky lightly brushed off his clothes covered in dirt and smiled in relief.

Makoto: “Sky. I want to take the butterfly to my room cause it’s so pretty.”

Sky: “No way. You want to capture it again right after it got free? And anyway… isn’t it pretty to watch because it’s flying up in the sky that it loves?”

Makoto: “Really?”

Sky: “There are different ways to think about it, I guess. But that’s how I see it.”

Makoto: “Hmm… then I won’t catch it. But you have to tell me as soon as you find another pretty butterfly. Within ten seconds.”

Sky: “No way I can do it that fast! But, yeah, I’ll tell you if I see one.”

The two of them stood there for a while, watching the butterfly soaring high up in the sky.
