The blue sky reflected off the glass of the towering building, making it seem to blend into the sky…-.
Atsushi: “This view is great…! It’s refreshing finally having the chance to look down at the calm streets.”
Sky: “This place in particular has a pretty good view. See there? During festivals, the fireworks shoot up from that spot.”
Atsushi’s gaze followed to where Sky was pointing, his eyes sparkling as he put his hands on the railing of the building.
Dazai: “Fireworks huh. Flowers that bloom in the sky. I’ll bet the view from here is beautiful.”
Sky: “Yeah! It really lights up the place. Too bad you guys can’t see it.”
These two men are Dazai and Atsushi, who had been transported to the Dream World after a strange incident.
Sky, who was helping them find a way back to their own world, was in the middle of showing them around while trying to gather information.
Sky: “I can’t say this town is peaceful by any means, but it ain’t bad from up here.”
Atsushi: “Yes, it’s like a world from a story.”
Dazai: “Hup.”
Dazai sat on the edge of the building, the strong wind making his overcoat billow.
Dazai: “Good weather, nice view, and optimum altitude.”
Sky: “But ya know, from what I hear your world is much… huh?”
With a clear smile on his face, Dazai started to lean forward and over the edge.
It was so sudden that Sky and Atsushi froze for a second…-.
Atsushi and Sky: “…!!!”
Somehow, they were able to grab Dazai’s defenseless body.
Atsushi: “Dazai! Were you trying to commit suicide again!?”
Dazai: “I want to be like the fireworks! A moment of sparkle, and then fading into nothing.”
Atsushi: “If you fell from up here, what would you do if there was someone below you!? What’s your motto Dazai!?”
Dazai: “My motto is ‘Have a pure, cheerful, and energetic suicide.‘…- Aaah, I don’t mean to cause problems for other people…”
Sky: “Anyway, there’s no way I’m going to let the guys I ate with earlier end up as top news!”
Somehow grabbing on to the leaning Dazai, the two were breathing heavily as they pulled on his overcoat and arm respectively.
Dazai: “Oh my, you don’t have to get so angry about it… we just have a job to acquire knowledge about this world from a safe place.”
Suddenly, Dazai’s expression was serious.
Dazai: “We mustn’t ignore the people in the highest positions of power for those walking beneath us. I do wonder, in this country, those who stand at the top… what are they seeing from their place of safety.”
Sky: “That’s…”
Daten, Land of Magical Science…-.
Until recently, the country had been governed completely by a monarchy, but a close associate of the king had led a coup d’eta and the country was now ruled by a presidential system of government.
For a moment, Sky froze at the implication in Dazai’s words.
Atsushi: “Sky…?”
Dazai: “… it’s no business of ours considering we’re simply visitors. Since we’re complete outsiders, we have to take the utmost care.”
Sky: “Dazai…”
Sky’s eyes trembled, possibly lost in his own doubts, and Dazai looked at him kindly.
Dazai: “Now then, I’ve said what I wanted to say, but…- …I believe that you guys will come to understand what I mean some day!”
Atsushi and Sky: “That’s great, now come back down!”
The pure white clouds drifted around impossibly close.
Tucked away in this corner of the modern city, a minor fiasco unfolded and blended into the blue sky.
