Ch. 5: Feelings of Frustration

The day following my adventure into the city at night with Lid…-.

As I remembered the night before, I walked down the halls of the castle and…-.

OO: “Lid!”

I saw Lid walking towards me.

Lid: “…!”

Lid noticed me, then for some reason turned around and started walking in the opposite direction.

OO: “Lid! What’s wrong?”

Lid: “Oh, uh…”

I caught up to him as he panicked, and his gaze darted all over, seemingly unable to relax.

At that time…-.

Callan: “Lady OO.”

I turned towards the sudden voice, and saw Callan standing there with a serious expression on his face.

OO: “Callan!”

Callan: “I have something…to talk to you about.”

OO: “Is something the matter…?”

Lid: “Well then, I’ll just…”

Callan: “Lid, you’re fine, just wait there.”

Lid had tried to leave in a hurry, but Callan stopped him.

(What’s going on…?)

Callan turned his gaze away from Lid and back to me, then he spoke quite clearly.

Callan: “Lady OO, would you go out with me?”

OO: “Eh…”

Lid: “…”

All I could do was stand perfectly still on hearing his sudden words.

Ch. 6: The Best Happiness

Callan: “Lady OO, would you go out with me? You don’t need to answer right away…well then, I’ll return to my work.”

——————–

That night…-.

Having received an unexpected proposal from Callan, my mind was in chaos and I thought of Lid.

(I…)

I left my room, and headed towards Lid’s…-.

In front of Lid’s room, I took a deep breath and knocked.

OO: “Lid? It’s me…can I come in?”

Lid: “Sure…”

I heard Lid’s quiet voice coming from inside the room.

Entering, I saw Lid sitting in the dark, staring out the window.

His emerald green hair looked pale in the light of the moon.

Lid: “…what’re you doing here, it’s late.”

Lid muttered those words to me without meeting my eyes.

OO: “You know, Lid… Um… about Callan…”

My words balked as I could tell the mood around Lid was somehow different than usual.

Lid: “…what, it’s a good deal yeah? He’s really fallen for ya… he’ll treat ya right.”

Hearing those words from Lid made my heart ache horribly.

OO: “You’re okay with me and Callan dating?”

The words I felt deep in my heart came out, and in shock at what I’d said, I covered my mouth with both hands, but…

Lid: “I never said that…!”

Lid’s voice rose in irritation.

OO: “…”

I reflexively turned away from Lid’s threatening tone.

Lid: “My bad…go on, go to bed. You gotta give my bro a proper answer.”

Lid said as much, then once again turned his gaze back to the window.

OO: “Wait, Lid. I…”

Lid: “…!”

Lid left the window and came towards me…

My body was embraced in a powerful hug.

Lid: “Someone like me can’t do anything to get in my bro’s way! You…why’d you come here?”

Lid’s voice was shaking.

(I…)

My mind had been chaotic since Callan’s confession, and Lid hadn’t said anything at the time. That was why.

And because of that, I had felt so incredibly sad, and so I’d come to see Lid.

OO: “…I had to tell you Lid. That I want to be with you…”

I tried to say it, but for some reason my words stopped as I felt like I was about to cry.

Lid: “Sorry…”

He murmured as he spoke, then clenched his fist as if in determination.

Lid: “I don’t wanna lose, not to my bro, or to anyone else… I wanted to be your number one. Don’t look at anyone else, just look at me.”

I couldn’t hear anything other than Lid’s serious tone over the pounding in my heart.

OO: “…yeah, and I like you the most Lid.”

I gently wrapped my arms around Lid’s back.

I should have been able to recognize these feelings earlier, but I was finally able to express them.

Lid: “…you really are a weirdo, being ok with me.”

Lid wiped away the tears that had spilled from my eyes, then gently stroked my cheek.

As we stood like that, he came in closer…

OO: “Nn…”

Our lips connected.

When at last we drew apart, I took a breath and Lid looked down at me. He had a mischievous smile on his face.

Lid: “…guess I gotta go apologize to my bro. Then maybe I’ll go rub this in Tiga’s face.”

OO: “Haha…”

Still firmly in Lid’s arms, I rested my head on his chest…

And heard a warm, gentle heartbeat.

As Lid held me tightly, I was wrapped up in a happiness greater than anything I’d felt before.
