It’s good to be back!!!!! I don’t have any particular notes on Nox except to say that reading his Secret Story really helped to clear up some issues I had with earlier lines I had translated. I had my guesses about what was really going on, which led me to extrapolate my translations in one way, but then when things were cleared up in the Secret Story, I was able to go back and made edits to those earlier lines so that things flowed a bit better and made more sense.

The lesson from Nox’s story is that you can’t get an accurate translation without the full picture. There are too many things that can go unsaid in Japanese but that need to be in place for an English sentence to make sense. Which leads translators like myself to make guesses about those ‘between the line’ bits. And sometimes we’re right, but sometimes we’re wrong. This is why I try to read through everything after I’ve translated it and then go back to make edits for a smoother, more comprehensible story. Keep that in mind if you ever want to try your hand at translating!
