Here he is, Tiga, our Garnet Prince! Done at the request of one of my readers, this is my first of the princes residing in the Land of Jewels, and a good one to start with. Tiga was fun to read, and he has a fun personality. And he rides a horse of pure white, just like a proper fairy tail prince! Our protagonist doesn’t handle that so well but…I guess I can’t blame her as she likely has never ridden a horse before and they can be kind of intimidating if you’ve not been around them. I also think the problem that the protagonist deals with in this story is very legitimate. Without giving too much away, she wonders if people are only treating her a certain way because she’s the Princess of Träumere. Like, yeah, why haven’t you thought of this before? I’d always be worried about that to be honest; royal politicking can be a scary and ruthless thing. Though if Apollo was only being nice to me because of that, I wouldn’t really mind~Back to Tiga. He speaks rather casually, not as casual as Vairy though, and this time around I didn’t have too much trouble with it. A couple specific lines gave me some trouble though, because I wasn’t entirely sure what they were being directed at and which interpretation to use. Those lines are:
From Ch. 7 of the Sun Route:
ティーガ「ったく。 せっかく我慢してたってのに、意味ないだろ」
Tiga: “Geez. What’s the point in going through all this trouble?”
From the Final Chapter of the Sun Route:
ティーガ「それに。 オマエのことは、オレがわかっていればそれでいい」
Tiga: “Even so. I just wanted you to know.”
I’m still not totally confident in those translations, but what I had originally translated them to didn’t really make a whole lot of sense, so I messed about with it for a little and went back and forth. In the end, the above translations are what I went with.
I also wanted to comment on Tiga’s childhood friend. In Japanese his name is written as ルカ. You can put that into a dictionary and get ‘Luke’, but since we’ve already got a prince named Luke, I didn’t want to use that reading. So we can go with either ‘Luca’ or ‘Luka’. I looked up both, and there wasn’t a right-or-wrong spelling when it came to the name, so to further separate it from ‘Luke’ I went with the ‘Luca’ spelling. Just so you know!
